My First Blog Post (September 25th 2023)
For my free inquiry project I want to investigate and learn more about the benefits of introducing Social-Emotional learning (SEL) into the classroom, as well as learn different strategies that we can introduce into our daily routine. Firstly, what is social-emotional learning? Social-Emotional learning is the process of combining social skills and emotional skills and utilizing this in to learning process. This idea leads to self discovery and heightened self-awareness while acknowledging deeper emotional attributes. This process of becoming more aware of your emotions and feelings, ultimately enables children (and adults) to develop a deeper connection with people around them, as well as learning more about themselves as human beings.
What are some benefits of SEL that I am already aware of?
- Self Regulation
- Deeper Emotional Understanding
- Self Confidence
- Communication Skills
What I want to learn more about:
- Ways I can incorporate SEL into the classroom
- Benefits of SEL in students every day lives
- Resources I can use in my classroom
- How does SEL strengthen students learning?
- How does SEL encourage students to be more open and make connections in the learning environment?
How I plan on incorporating technology into my learning:
I plan to utilize technology sources such as websites, journals, Pinterest, Facebook groups and YouTube videos to gather important research. I also plan on using technology to build my resource book.
Next Steps:
As the weeks progress I plan to dive deeper into what Social-Emotional Learning truly means and start collecting data and resources that will benefit my own personal learning as well as strengthen my knowledge in a way that I can bring SEL into my classroom. By the end of this assignment I will create a resource book by using technology too collect resources, as well as explore different technology mediums to not only find these resources, but to present them in an organized and aesthetic manner.
