Describe coding and Pair Programming. Did you experience Pair Programming in class? What did you think of it? In your future classroom, do you think you would prefer a 1:1 student to device ratio or do you think fewer devices could be better utilized?

Pair programming is a technique used in code creation. One person is designated the driver, this is the person who is in charge of the mouse and operation of the software. The second person is the navigator. This person’s role is the guide and navigate the driver, much like what is done in the car. The driver operates the vehicle, while the passenger is in charge of directions. This technique is effective throughout the creation of coding as well as within the classroom since this provides each student with a specific role during the coding process and allows students to work on teamwork and collaboration as well as communication skills.

Within our class we did not fully experience pair programming as we all had our own devices so we decided to create our codes independently; however, I can see the benefits this would have provided if we had worked in pairs.
For my future classroom, I believe having 1:1 student-to-device ratio as well as pair programming 2:1 student-to-device ratio would be important to incorporate. I believe that there are many advantages and learning curves to working with a partner and learning how to communicate effectively with a goal in mind, as well as overall collaboration. I also believe having time to be in charge of your own device and learn to work independently is extremely beneficial for exploration and independence building.
