The book that changed everything for me was The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell from The Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer. This book truly changed the way I felt about reading. I can remember exactly when I was hooked. I was in grade 6 and my teacher began reading this book to my class during lunch times. The story had such a complex and mysterious plot line I remember always being so antsy to hear the next page, and when she stopped reading, I could not wait until lunchtime the next day. I remember distinctly that the end of the first book ended on the perfect cliffhanger and I simply could not wait until we began the next book.
This series ended up having 10 books total. I recall reading through 2 over the school year and as soon as the second book was finished and school wrapped up as well, I ran to the book store and bought my own copy of the 3rd book before our family road trip to the Caribou to visit my Grandpa. I read the book ALL summer, I could not get enough of it! This was the first time I actually enjoyed reading for fun and not just for a novel study or for school.
After finishing this series I quickly found The Hunger Games and Divergent series which in my opinion is a more mature version of The Land of Stories, which is truly why I feel this book and series is what changed my perspective on reading and encourage me to take up reading as a hobby and not just at school.
