Wolves in The Walls – VR Experience:

Reflection: We went to Gordon Terrace and broke into small groups. I was paired with Krista and we had 4 students in our group. We started by reading the book out loud to our group and showing them the photos. The students had interesting things to point out when they observed the photos in this book because each page had such detailed and intense art work. They really seemed to enjoy it for the most part, but it did seem two students in our group were more apprehensive and maybe a little uneasy about the drawings.

This experience was so unique! I have never used VR within a classroom and I found this activity was truly impactful and really enhanced the story. Once we finished the story, we got two VR headsets for our group. Two students were eager to try them out first. Both of them had experience with VR prior, so they seemed really comfortable getting into it. The other two were not really keen on trying out the headsets, so they opted for the iPad video interaction instead. The two students with the VR progressed through the different chapters on VR and seemed to really enjoy it.

My role and participation: I read the story to the group and was mostly there I s a support while they tried the VR game. I began by setting up the VR play boundaries for the students before they started on the VR game. One of my students in y group decided they preferred to try the game out stationary (sitting in a chair) while the others wanted to be on their feet. My main role while they played the game was to make sure they did not crash into anything or anyone (One student was very energetic and mobile while playing and I had to save them from accidentally hitting the nearby shelf.) Other than that, I worked alongside Krista with the students who were watching the YouTube 360 video and answered any questions they had.
