This week’s class topic is ‘Innovation in Education’:
On Tuesday we went to SD5’s Design Lab with Ryan Mackenzie and explored what they learn within the space and the resources accessible.
Some tech we explored in the design lab included:
- Oxobots
- VR games
- Stop motion animation (Lego)
- Moxie Ai Robot
- Block coding lego robots
- 3D printing
and more !
The design lab directly correlates with innovation in education as it encourages new technology and allows students and educators to come in and explore these new technological advances and how we can use them within our classroom. Ultimately inspiring growth in the use of technology within the classroom.

How does it fit in with ‘Innovation in Education’? What sort of project would you choose to do?
One thing that stood out to me was the VR goggles. Bella and I spent a fair amount of time exploring this tool since we both had never used it before. Checking out the different apps you can get on the VR, would be extremely beneficial to teaching and exploring different concepts that maybe students could not otherwise explore. This tool could also be used to expand learning and be a resource for students who learn better with visual exploration.

I would utilize this space with my own class by incorporating these tools and the design lab for certain lessons and units. I would plan a cross-curricular project in which students could use stop motion to plan out their story, and execute it using stop motion techniques and later, editing tools and effects to polish their assignment.
